Which devices qualify for trade-in?

We accept trade-in on multiple categories, including; Laptops, Tablets, Mobile Phones, Gaming Consoles Smart watches and a range of Special offers. To see whether yours qualifies, it’s quickest to use our online ‘get an estimate’ calculator above. As long as it recognises your laptop or tablet’s specifications, we can accept the device for trade-in.
You can trade-in your mobile phone at our sister brand, Carphone Warehouse.

What happens to my traded-in device?

Traded-in devices are checked, and any data still stored on them is securely wiped. They’re then sent to a third-party for re-use – most are sent to developing markets where laptop and tablet use is growing rapidly.

What happens to any data left on my device?

Keeping your data and sensitive information secure is our top priority. When we receive a device for trade-in, we (or an approved third-party) wipe the data stored on it – this is done to Infosec Standard 5 (the same standard as UK government data destruction).
If you trade-in an iOS device, we delete the encryption key so that any stored data can’t be deciphered.
If your device can’t be wiped, the data storage components will be destroyed, and the waste materials recycled.

Can I cancel a trade-in?

Once you’ve got an online quote from us, you’re free to trade-in your device or keep it – the choice is yours. If the laptop you send us using the pre-paid label provided online differs from the one we quoted you on or the device you bring into store differs from the one you’ve specified online, the quote we gave you won’t apply.
Once you’ve traded in a device, we won’t be able to return it.

What if my device is broken, fake or counterfeit?

You’ll be able to trade in your device as long as it’s not counterfeit or broken beyond repair. When you get an online quote, we list the kind of failures that we will accept on your trade-in product. If you’re still not sure, simply bring your device into any Currys store.
There’s been an increase in counterfeit devices in the UK market. They might look like originals, but they are illegally produced, and can be dangerous to use. We won’t be able to accept these items for trade-in.

Can I trade-in a device I didn’t buy from Currys or Carphone Warehouse?

Yes, it doesn’t matter where or when you bought your device. As long as it meets the requirements listed on our ‘get an estimate’ calculator, you can trade-in your device with us.

How do you assess your device’s trade-in value?

The value of your trade-in device is based on its specification and condition, as confirmed by us in store. Before you bring it in, you can use our ‘get an estimate’ calculator to get a provisional valuation for your device.

How do you pay me?

We’ll pay you with a Currys gift card to spend in store or online. Where there are special promotions, there may be restrictions on using your gift card. If you Trade-in a Laptop online however, you will receive a refund to your bank account.

Why don’t you offer trade-in online?

We offer online Trade-in for Laptops and we also offer Online trade-in for your mobile phone at our sister brand, Carphone Warehouse. You can get a provisional trade-in valuation online for all other categories but you’ll need to bring your device into store so we can verify it and exchange it for a gift card

If I receive an e-gift card, do I have to buy another laptop?

No, if you have chosen the Standard Trade In option you can use your eGift card against any purchase within our stores. For any promotional offers they can only be redeemed against qualifying promotional purchases.

Pre-trade in

Can I do my trade in online or does it have to be done in a store?

You can do both! If you wish to obtain an E-Gift card to offset against your purchase, then please visit store. Alternatively, if you want a refund to your bank account then you can trade in online for Laptops. In order to take advantage of a promotion, the Trade-In must be completed in the same channel as your purchase; i.e. if you buy a laptop in store, you cannot Trade-In your old laptop online.

Can I trade my laptop in if it is faulty/damaged?

It depends on the problem. Please go through our quotation calculator to find out. If we cannot offer a value then you can use our recycling service for free.

What are the timescales for sending my laptop to you?

You can return your laptop whenever is convenient for yourself. We can however only hold the price we pay for 14 days from point of quotation. In some instances, quotes can be extended.

Can I trade in more than 1 laptop?

Yes of course, however each Trade In will need to be completed individually. You may only receive the promotional amount per one qualifying purchase.

Can your store retrieve data from damaged laptops prior to trade in?

We offer a data rescue service in store for a fee.

If I post my laptop in, how do I know you have received it?

We will send you an email confirming when we receive your laptop. We will also send you an email when you have been paid.

If I have an existing Care plan on my current laptop, will that carry over to my new laptop?

No, you must cancel your current care plan and take out a new one should you wish.

Settlement

Do I receive a BACS refund for my laptop?

If you choose to send your laptop into us through the online method, you will receive a BACS payment within 1-5 working days of us processing the device.

Do I receive a voucher/e-gift card as payment?

You can receive a Gift card payment, however the Trade In will need to be completed in one of our Currys Stores. If you Trade-in Online you will receive a BACS payment.

How long will it take for me to receive the BACS payment?

All BACS payments are made to you within 1 to 5 working days of us processing your device.

Post trade in

What happens to my data if I cannot retrieve it off my laptop?

Once we have received and processed your laptop, the device will be data wiped to ensure that all data is removed.

Can you retrieve my data for me and send it out on a memory stick?

Unfortunately, we are unable to back up the data of the device once it has been received by ourselves. The device will be processed on the same date we receive the unit.

What happens to my laptop once you receive it?

After we have received your device, we will process this through our systems and ensure it meets the criteria selected online.

What happens if I change my mind and I have not redeemed the settlement. Is there a cooling off period where I can receive my laptop back?

Once we have received your laptop we are unable to return this back to you.

B2B Trade-In

Can I Trade-In my Laptop in Store?

No, at this moment in time, you can only Trade-In B2B Laptops online.

What is my B2B Order Number?

If you have purchased your new laptop in store, you will have a B2B order number on your receipt. You’ll need to enter this, so we can match up your Trade-In with your purchase and pay you the promotional amount.

In Store

  1. Actual trade in value will vary dependant on device.
  2. Offer only available in store.
  3. If you trade in your old item ("Device") you will be eligible to receive trade in value in the form of a Currys electronic gift card "eGift Card".
  4. Only one Gift Card can be used to subsidise the transaction. Offer not available in conjunction with any other offer. Subject to availability.
  5. You will be deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions ("Conditions") when you provide us with the Device. If you have any questions relating to these Conditions please ask in store before completing the trade in process.
  6. You confirm you are either the owner of the Device or you have obtained express permission from the rightful owner to trade it in.
  7. The Device must not be stolen or listed with us or a third party as stolen. For some items (e.g. mobile phones) we will check the Device with CheckMEND, from the suppliers of IMMOBILISE as used by UK Police forces to trace stolen and missing property. If the Device fails any due diligence check we may notify the relevant police authority and we may pass the Device and your details to them and the eGift Card value may be cancelled or recovered.
  8. If the Device contains any additional accessories (eg. memory cards or additional console controllers), you must remove these prior to trade in. We will not be liable for any consequence of you not removing the accessories, including any payments associated with the Device.
  9. If there is data stored on the Device you wish to retain, it must be saved elsewhere and you must remove any memory card and/or all data that has been put onto the Device prior to trade in. We will not be liable for any damage, loss or erasure of any such data or for any consequence of you not removing your data or memory card, including use or disclosure of such data.
  10. Once you have traded in the Device, it becomes our property and it will not be possible to retrieve it under any circumstances.
  11. These Conditions are governed by English Law.
  12. We reserve the right to amend the terms and conditions or discontinue the card at any time. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Online

  3. If you trade in your old item ("Device") you will be eligible to receive trade in value in the form of a bank transfer via BACS within 5 working days of us receiving and assessing your device.
  4. You will be deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions ("Conditions") when you provide us with the Device. Device must be sent to us within 14 days of receiving your quote.
  5. If the Device received does not completely match the description and detail as advised by you, we will contact you to give you the option either to have the Device returned to you at our cost, in which case no value will be paid to you, or proceed with the trade in at a new value advised to you. If you do not respond to this contact as advised therein within 7 working days, we will assume that you have accepted our revised offer and proceed with payment accordingly.
  6. You confirm you are either the owner of the Device or you have obtained express permission from the rightful owner to trade it in.
  7. The Device must not be stolen or listed with us or a third party as stolen.
